Physiotherapy Services

Scope of Service

  1. Chest physiotherapy for both adult and paed. ID patients
  2. Active rehabilitation for ID patients with movement problem and to prevent spasticity and contracture
  3. General physiotherapy service for ID patents
  4. Physiotherapist training for ID patients

Service Hours

  • Monday to Friday : 8:15 am to 4:45 pm (referral cutoff before 4:00 pm)
  • Saturday : 8:15 am to 1:00 pm (referral cutoff before 12:00 noon)
  • Sunday or PH : 8:15 am till work finished or at least to 12:00 noon (referral cutoff before 12:00 noon)

Remark

Service to ID cases will be scheduled at the last 1 to 2 hours of each working day

Manpower

  1. For non-pandemic situation, we will have 3 staffs working for ID cases (as well as other non ID cases in other wards) together with 4 staffs working for ICU cases (as well as other non ID cases in other wards). Staff to patient ratio should be 1 staff to 3 or 4 ID cases per hour, while 1 or 2 staff to 1 or 2 ID ICU cases per hour.
  2. During pandemic situation, we will follow the hospital, PTCOC as well as our department contingence plan for pandemic outbreak. Staffs with infection control training within PMH PT department will be mobilized (preferable to have in-patient experience before) to serve in ID setting according to our contingence plan (ward unit first, than LKB as well as OPD after the required staffs number exceed our ward unit staffs number)
  3. For non-pandemic situation, physiotherapist’s assistants (Artisans) may need to help out physiotherapists in the ID center as usual.
  4. During pandemic situation, physiotherapist’s assistants (Artisans) are not encouraged to work in the ID center except under special situation with pre-training and close supervision.

Referrals

  1. Send referrals via Fax or CMS - Within the referral cutoff time
  2. For urgent cases – telephone request must be mentioned in the call
  3. Referrals should contain the usual information such as: Patient particulars (Gum Label), Diagnosis, treatment ordered, corresponding Medical Officer. For ID cases, we would like to add the followings: Transmission based precaution

Physiotherapy Service to IDC

Same procedure as for Medical Round and Consultation in Chapter 3.2.

Remarks for Equipment from PT Department
  • Normal Period - Disinfect equipment in ante room before taking away from room
  • Emergency Level - Leave equipment at bedside until not required; Respiratory equipment will be seal in a plastic bag and taken away for disinfection

  7. Pressure Relief Management
  8. Pressure Therapy
  9. Pre-discharge planning Service
  10. Community Occupational Therapy Service

Service Hours
Monday to Friday : 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
Saturday : 9:00 am - 12:00 noon

Service provided on referral basis
