Welcome message from Director

Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH) has been the designated infectious disease (ID) centre in Hong Kong since 1975. Post SARS review by the HK Government recommended the need for surge capacity in the public healthcare system. In 2004, the Legislative Council had approved funding for the establishment of the first infectious disease centre in HK at PMH. This Hospital Authority Infectious Disease Centre (HA IDC) commenced its operation on 21 April 2007 and was officially opened on 22 June 2007. Since then, the ID Centre has been managing various kinds of infectious disease including avian influenza, hospital acquired infections, as well as tropical infections.
